100th Anniversary of the Ball Mason Jar

2013 marks the 100th anniversary of the first series of mason jars produced by the Ball Brothers in 1913.   This year they produced beautiful, limited edition jars to celebrate the anniversary in a period correct blue.  I got mine today at Target.

College Boy brought home some macarons from Creme de la Cookie.

I know that seems like a misspelling, but College Boy just gave me a lesson.  Apparently the image on the top is a macaron and the one on the bottom is a macaroon.  You can get the whole story at PopSugar Food.

BTW...   I only ate one coconut flavored macaron.  It was yummy!

Antique Olive Bucket Love

I ordered this antique olive bucket from Decor Steals.  Do y'all ever order from them?  I'm embarrassed to say that I wait anxiously every morning for the steal of the day to appear in my inbox.

I had to wait patiently for several weeks for this bucket to arrive, but it was SO worth the wait.  It was everything I thought it would be and more.  It was bigger than I thought it would be.

So, now where do I put it?  What do I put in it?  I know, most people purchase things with a purpose in mind.  And, most of the time I do too.  I just got so excited when I saw this offered and I knew they would run out of them quickly.

Kim from Savvy Southern Style put a fern in hers.  It's absolutely beautiful.

I love the idea of a rosemary topiary in it.

A pendant light is very cool too.  Wish I had a place for one.

Dried hydrangeas are so pretty in it.

I LOVE the Christmas tree!  I will be doing this for Christmas!

I found lots of good ideas.  We'll see what ends up in mine :-)

Do You Suffer From DADD?

I seem to always have DADD (design attention deficit disorder)  when it comes to my own home.  So, in an effort to be more organized, focused and deliberate, I plan to create a concept board for each room of the house, make a "to do" list and items to purchase.

I was introduced to the idea when I hired Holly Mathis to help me with the kitchen/breakfast room.

Here's how Holly's design board looked.

And here's how the room  looks today.

I still need to slipcover the chairs, move the woven woods up to the drapery rod and find one more oil painting.  And,  I'm thinking of painting the door SW Porpoise like the pantry door.  But, you get the idea.  The design board really helped me to visualize how the room would look finished and helped me to stay focused on what I really wanted for the room.  I learned so much going through this process with Holly.

Here's what I came up with for the media room.  I don't want it to be to "media room themed".  I would like just a hint of movies with nod to our Oklahoma roots.  I'm thinking Sooner football, Oklahoma the musical and old westerns.  Again, not too over the top with the media room theme.

It may get tweaked along the way, but it gives me a great jumping off point and helps Juan to understand where I'm going with the room.  We need a huge sectional and some soft pillows and throws.  The red dresser is there to represent our built in wet bar.  It's stained coffee brown and the walls and carpet are dark brown.  I want to paint them red with Annie Sloan chalk paint.  I've wanted one of these Oklahoma pillows forever!  I love it.  They make them in every state.  Hmm... maybe I should get a Michigan, Texas and California pillow too...  Nah,  I think just the OK pillow will be perfect.

I want to make two subway signs.  One similar to the one on the concept board but I would change it to include Gamma Phi Beta, Lambda Chi Alpha and maybe Boyd Hall (Juan and I had a class together in Boyd).  And, for the other one, I want the song, "Oklahoma".

So, that's where it stands for now!
